Week 4 — Game Recaps
Gm. 1: Santana boys rock Misfits, Team Rockstar stretch win streak to 3
NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI (R.I.W.B.L.) — Santana was once again center stage entertaining the masses and bringing the house down. It wasn't Carlos, but the J. Santana boys, who powered Team Rockstar to a comfortable 20-6 win over The Misfits in a shortened six-inning affair.
The Misfits must have thought they had their own Black Magic Woman, as the two Santana-s combined for three home runs and drove in 14 runs by themselves. The marquee namesakes each smacked a two-run home run in the 2nd inning to get the scoring started for Team Rockstar.
L. Felix put together another Smooth game, homering and hitting a pair of triples, while earning the win on the mound, throwing three solid innings, striking out four Misfits.
S. Giblin made a strong impression in his BYWBL debut, homering in his first plate appearance, giving The Misfits an early 2-0 lead. He added another home run in the 4th inning and drove in five of his team’s six runs.

Gm. 2: DiOrio hits record 5 HRs, Free Agents & Misfits go on record barrage
NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI (R.I.W.B.L.) — M. DiOrio put together a performance for the ages, and the Free Agents broke open a last-inning tie game to defeat The Misfits, 24-12.
After trailing early, Team Rockstar scored twelve runs in three innings to open up a 12-4 lead. The Misfits rallied for five home runs and seven total runs in the 5th inning alone, adding a S. Giblin solo home run in the 6th to tie the game, 12-12.
To say that M. DiOrio had himself a game would be an understatement. Two grand slams. Five total home runs, including three in his final three at-bats. Eight total hits. 16 runs batted in. 24 total bases. Throw in one perfect inning on the mound, for good measure. His 7th-inning grand slam secured the victory.
H. Feliz homered twice, and J. Morris homered and drove in five runs in what was a 46-total-base attack from the Free Agents.
Team Rockstar wasn’t alone. The Misfits homered six times, three by S. Giblin, two by G. Papa, and another by S. Murray. Each Misfit player had at least four hits, with Giblin collecting eight. That gave Giblin eleven hits, five home runs, and ten RBIs in his first two career BYWBL games.
Amidst all of the offensive carnage, G. Papa threw three perfect innings for The Misfits, striking out seven.

Gm. 3: Muñoz's third HR spells doom for Free Agents, Mass Ave. wins 2nd straight
NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI (R.I.W.B.L.) — Mass Ave. was able to withstand numerous runs by the gritty Free Agents, holding them off for a 14-7 victory.
J. Muñoz was at the center of it all. His career game featured three home runs, one that tied the game in the 3rd inning, one that extended what was a small lead in the 5th inning, and a 7th-inning leadoff home run that proved to be the game-winner. He also won the game on the mound, pitching an inning of relief.
The Free Agents rallied to tie the game at several occasions, most notably in the 6th inning, after trailing by five runs. After Mass Ave. scored seven in the final frame to retake the lead, G. Peguero, after having started the game, returned to close out the Free Agents.
Peguero allowed only one earned run in three innings, striking out seven Free Agents.
E. Reyes homered twice, Peguero homered once, and R. Calderon added five hits, including three triples, for Mass Ave.
The Free Agents put together a balanced offensive performance. Each of their six players drove in at least one run, with J. Morris, H. Feliz, and H. Brown homering.

Gm. 4: No Mercy: The Boys down Los Mattatangs 32-1
NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI (R.I.W.B.L.) — What The Boys did on Sunday was something no MLB team since 1900 has even accomplished. And they did so in a five-inning “Mercy Rule”-shortened game.
The Boys scored early and often — in every inning, in fact — and put up the most runs in a single game in BYWBL history … and MLB history in the modern era.
The Boys hit 9 home runs in the contest, with four players each hammering a pair. Every player on the roster collected at least five hits and drove in at least five runs. Much like the Santana boys earlier in the morning, the Pingitore boys combined for 17 of the team’s runs driven in.
By the end of the 1st inning, an RBI triple by K. Fabian had cut the Los Mattatangs deficit to 2-1. But an eight-run, three-homer second inning began what would become an historic onslaught.
Not to be overshadowed, The Boys allowed only two hits (both by K. Fabian) and struck out nine total Mattatangs along the way.
NOTE: On August 22, 2007, the Texas Rangers, in the first game of a doubleheader at Camden Yards, were held scoreless through the first three innings (and for five of the innings), then exploded for the most runs ever by a MLB team in the last 120 years, in a 30-3 win over the Orioles.
Two 19th-century MLB teams from the Windy City have surpassed 32 runs in one game: the Chicago Colts (36-7 victory over the Louisville Colonels on June 29, 1897) and the Chicago White Stockings (35-4 victory over the Cleveland Blues on July 24, 1882).

Gm. 5: L. Felix, Team Rockstar come alive after slumber, defeat Toxic Lounge
NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI (R.I.W.B.L.) — It was a tale of two games … it was the best of pitching, it was the best of hitting. It began with one historic team first, then was to almost be eclipsed by a historic individual feat. Both feats were foiled, but Team Rockstar bats awoke to defeat Toxic Lounge 18-8 in their second victory of the day, remaining undefeated.
During a day when historic offensive numbers were being turned in seemingly every hour, Toxic Lounge was primed to do something no team had ever done in BYWBL history — throw a no-hitter.
R. Garcia threw three no-hit innings, striking out the maximum nine Team Rockstar players. Earlier in the day, Team Rockstar had accrued 22 hits in a win over The Misfits.
When L. Felix homered in the 4th inning off F. Osoria to end the no-hit bid, it tied the game 2-2 and started what would be a 17-hit performance by Team Rockstar (4-0).
For Felix, it also began a march to surpass a record we did not think would be approached — at least not in the same day! M. DiOrio had hit five home runs for the Free Agents just a few hours earlier. Felix went on to hit four home runs in five plate appearances, including two grand slams. He finished with six hits, four home runs, and 13 runs batted in.
In his final two at-bats, Felix struck out and singled, falling one short of DiOrio’s home run mark.
Osoria and A. Santos each homered for Toxic Lounge (1-3). Toxic Lounge pitching struck out 18 hitters.
