Gm. 1: Gomez, Jr., The Boys trash talk their way to victory over Misfits
NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI (R.I.W.B.L.) — V. Gomez, Jr. struck out eight and drove in the only run The Boys needed with his 2nd-inning triple, leading The Boys to a 5-1 victory in their season opener against The Misfits.
Gomez’s start, which included allowing just three hits and walking one, was the second best on the young season, tallying a 60 game score. The Boys struck out eleven total Misfits.
R. Santopietro added a two-run triple in the final frame, while D. Pingitore gave The Boys a multiple-hit performance, driving in a run of his own.
The Misfits only allowed two earned runs, behind the hurling of G. Papa and J. Morris, who struck out 10 Boys hitters. Morris spoiled the shutout bid with a 4th-inning solo home run off J. Grizzly.

Gm. 2: Grizzly strikes out 9, bats explode in 4th, as The Boys avoid upset vs. Free Agents
NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI (R.I.W.B.L.) — J. Grizzly and T. Clark dominated Free Agent bats all morning, striking out the maximum twelve hitters en route to an 11-3 win for The Boys (2-0) over the Free Agents. The Boys surrendered just four hits for the game.
Despite the dominance, The Boys were down 3-2 and one out away from being upset by the upstart Free Agents, before eight consecutive Boys reached base and nine runs scored, culminating with a grand slam by R. Santopietro, his first home run of the season.
Including his relief appearance earlier in the day, J. Grizzly has now struck out twelve hitters in four innings and has punched out two-thirds of all hitters he has faced.
T. Clark got the Boys started offensively with his two-run home run off J. Morris in the third inning, but Morris exacted his revenge with a three-run home run off Grizzly to give the Free Agents the lead entering the final inning.

Gm. 3: Free Agents earn win over Toxic Lounge via forfeit
NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI (R.I.W.B.L.) — The Free Agents (1-1) earned their first victory of the 2021 season, defeating Toxic Lounge (1-1).
Gm. 4: Peguero, Mass Ave. cap off wild 4th inning rally with walk-off
NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI (R.I.W.B.L.) — G. Peguero got roughed up on the mound in the top of the 4th inning, but came through with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom half, his fourth hit of the game which secured a rain-filled comeback victory by Mass Ave. over Toxic Lounge (1-2).
In the first of its three consecutive games throughout the afternoon, Mass Ave. (1-1) came back from three runs down to take the lead in the 3rd inning, then four runs down to win the game in the 4th inning.
After a series of walks that cut the Toxic Lounge lead to 9-6, R. Calderon tied the game with a bases-loaded triple, then scoring on Peguero’s game-winning hit.
Toxic Lounge had a balanced and effective attack against the Mass Ave. pitching staff, with each hitter collecting at least two hits and three players each homering. Down 5-4 entering the 4th inning, S. Neal’s two-run double gave Toxic Lounge the lead and was immediately followed by E. Robles’s two-run triple and R. Garcia’s RBI single, extending the lead to 9-5.
Garcia struck out seven in his three-inning start, earning a no-decision.

NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI (R.I.W.B.L.) — M. DiOrio hit the game-winning grand slam and pitched a perfect final inning, striking out all three hitters he faced, leading Team Rockstar to a dominant 9-3 victory over Mass Ave. (1-2).
DiOrio’s slam began a stretch of reaching base in his final five plate appearances, including four hits and two home runs, driving in seven of his team’s nine runs.
L. Felix homered as part of his three-hit night and struck out eight hitters on the mound, earning the win for Team Rockstar (2-0).
R. Calderon pitched three innings and struck out eight on the mound, as well as gave Mass Ave. an early lead, driving in two with his 1st-inning, two-out triple.
DiOrio’s slam began a stretch of reaching base in his final five plate appearances, including four hits and two home runs, driving in seven of his team’s nine runs.

Gm. 6: Calderon's record RBI performance, Muñoz cycle propel Mass Ave. to 2nd victory
NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI (R.I.W.B.L.) — R. Calderon drove in a season-high 10 runs and J. Muñoz hit for the league’s first cycle in 2021, as Mass Ave. held off Oakland Beach City (0-3) in the day’s lone seven-inning affair, an 18-15 slugfest.
In a stretch of four consecutive plate appearances, Calderon tripled and homered three consecutive times. He added another triple in the fifth, capping off an incredible 18-total base performance.
For his part, J. Muñoz collected six hits, including two triples and two home runs, and drove in five runs. J. Cedeño and E. Reyes also had four hits apiece.
OB City had a balanced, powerful attack of their own, led by J. Nelson, who struck for seven hits, including a triple and home run in his season debut, and K. McCarthy, who homered and drove in six runs as part of his five-hit game. C. Authelet added five hits in his season debut.
The two teams combined for 37 hits. After three lead changes defined the early innings, OB City was able to pull within one run in the 4th inning and then mount a furious 7th-inning rally that saw them score three runs, then leave the bases loaded with the go-ahead run at the plate.
Lost in all of the offense were the two pitching staffs striking out 25 hitters. Both starters figured in the decisions, as Cedeño logged his first victory of the year, while McCarthy took the loss.
