Gm. 1: Team Rockstar powers on both sides, defeats OB City
NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI (R.I.W.B.L.) — Team Rockstar (1-0) scored all of its runs and collected all of its eight hits to overcome a five-hit performance by K. McCarthy in a 9-3 victory over Oakland Beach City (0-2).
While OB City struck first, when McCarthy smashed a first-inning home run to left field to give his team an early 2-0 edge, the lead was short-lived. Team Rockstar responded with five of its own in the bottom half of the frame and never looked back.
In a complete team effort, each Team Rockstar player had at least one hit and plated at least one run. L. Felix began the scoring with a solo home run in the 1st inning and added a second solo home run in the 6th. E. Fowler’s RBI double tied the game, and the Santana boys took care of the rest.
J. Santana gave Team Rockstar the lead for good with his 3-run home run in the 1st, while his son, J. Santana, Jr. extended the lead in the 6th with a 3-run home run of his own. Santana, Jr. (1-0) started on the bump and struck out 7 in his three innings of pitching, earning his first win of the season. The Team Rockstar staff struck out 13 hitters in all.
K. McCarthy led the way for OB City, coming a triple away from the cycle for the second straight game. OB City tallied hits in all but one inning, including a R. Raso 4th-inning leadoff home run. That was the lone run Team Rockstar allowed after the 1st inning.

Gm. 2: Marcaccio shines in debut, Los Mattatangs bounce back with shutout over Mass Ave.
NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI (R.I.W.B.L.) — V. Marcaccio made an early impression, both at the plate and on the mound, leading Los Mattatangs to a 5-0 win over Mass Ave., its first win of the 2021 season.
Marcaccio deposited a solo home run deep to right field on the first pitch he saw this season, added another RBI one inning later, then finished the game pitching two hitless innings, striking out four.
Marcaccio wasn’t alone. M. Peña (1-0) pitched three masterful innings of one-hit ball, striking out four and walking none, earning the victory. His 61 game score is the largest of the season through Week 2. M. Dunphy smacked his first home run of the season and putout three hitters at third base.
In what was a well-pitched game on both sides, Los Mattatangs held Mass Ave. to just one hit, a J. Reyes single in the 2nd inning. For its part, Mass Ave. only allowed five hits to the victors. The two sides combined for 21 strikeouts.
G. Peguero (0-1) had a solid start for Mass Ave., striking out seven Mattatangs and only surrendering two hits, but a brief loss of command in the 3rd inning led to five consecutive walks and three runs allowed.
Mass. Ave’s R. Morales and J. Muñoz each made three putouts at second base and third base, respectively, several of which snuffed out potential rallies.
