NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (R.I.W.B.L.) – The Mick Fenway WIFFLE® Ball League showed why they are one of the premier leagues in southern New England, outscoring their opponents 55-24 and winning all four of their games, en route to winning the 2016 Rhode Island WIFFLE® Ball League Tournament championship.
The four players representing Mick Fenway WBL contributed consistently to the team’s success, with each collecting at least 10 hits and making at least three appearances on the mound. They all earned spots on the All-Tournament Team. Jordan McShane, named the Most Outstanding Player, led all participants with 18 hits, 10 doubles, 17 RBIs, and 38 total bases. He also hit 2 home runs, including the game-winner in the Championship Game off Kyle McLaughlin of the McMahon Mudcats. This year’s event was not only the first double-elimination Tournament format, it also marked the 20th Anniversary of the founding of the E. Justin WIFFLE® Ball League, now the Rhode Island WIFFLE® Ball League. The organization was founded by E. Justin and his father Eugene and has played host to some of the most exciting seasons, playoffs, and All-Star games in recent Ocean State history. The McMahon Mudcats (4-2), who won the 2015 R.I.W.B.L. All-Star Game, made a strong push to defend their title, behind the core-four of manager Devin McMahon, Adam Jengo, Mikey Santos, and Kyle McLaughlin, who started all six games. Jengo was named the tournament's Unsung Hero Award after hitting .615 (including a 5-5 performance against the Mastery Dragons to advance to the Championship Game), and led all players with 6 triples and 17 RBI. His 1.269 slugging percentage was the highest of any participant with 20+ AB.
